HYPERLOCAL // Botanical Dye & Raw Wool

Exploring Colour, Craft & Circularity at HFBK Hamburg

During this two-day workshop at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg, students worked hands-on with local raw wool  -  spinning, and dyeing it alongside reclaimed silk using botanical dyes. They also created natural watercolours from food scraps and learned how pH shifts can radically alter plant-based colours.

60–80% of raw wool produced in Germany goes unused.

In this workshop, we directly engaged with this often-overlooked material, aiming to reintegrate it into a sustainable, circular design practice.
